If you set your mind to something, nothing can hold you back. Sara Ali Khan is a prime example, having poured her heart and soul into becoming an actor. “I was a fat girl, sitting on the bed, crying, and saying, ‘Mum, I want to be an actor.’ That’s when she told me to lose weight,” Sara recalled. It took her about a year to shed the extra kilos. She admitted that she was always a foodie and naturally on the chubbier side, gaining even more weight during her studies in the US. “I lost weight in the last year while in the US,” she shared.

Sara Ali Khan lost around 40 kg in just a year and a half. Throughout her weight loss journey, she gave up junk food and committed to regular workouts. Since she was younger, her body responded quickly, allowing her to shed the weight rapidly.

Addressing the issue of body shaming, Sara Ali Khan said, “There’s this agenda of adhering to a perfect body image. But who decides what is perfect? If you want to be a little larger than what the neighbor’s wife thinks you should be, then go ahead. Just be healthy.”

Sara acknowledged the pressure to look a certain way and the impact of social media trolling. “I’ve grown up deriving my confidence not from how I look, but now, because a large part of my profession depends on my appearance, there is some pressure, and it can be nerve-wracking. It can affect your confidence and pull you down. So, you need to remind yourself that you are the only person who truly has the agency to make yourself feel how you should, and people will say what they have to say,” she shared.

Sara also revealed that losing weight was essential for her, partly due to her struggle with PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Disease).
