Aamir Khan shared a deeply personal moment from three years ago when he seriously considered quitting the film industry to devote more time to his family. He recounted how this decision left his loved ones, including his ex-wife Kiran Rao, shocked and concerned. During a conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, Aamir revealed that he even informed his production team, including Kiran, that he was no longer interested in continuing with the company and urged them to move forward without him.
Reflecting on the moment, Aamir recalled Kiran’s emotional response. She tearfully expressed her concern, saying, “You are made for cinema, and if you are leaving it, then you are letting go of life and the world.” Although Aamir tried to reassure her that she was misunderstanding his intentions, Kiran emphasized that by leaving the film industry, he would be abandoning a vital part of himself, as cinema is intrinsic to who he is. Aamir now acknowledges that Kiran’s perspective was valid, even though he didn’t fully grasp it at the time.
Aamir Khan shared further insights into his contemplation of leaving the film industry, revealing the emotional responses from both his ex-wife Kiran Rao and his children. He recalled how Kiran expressed that by stepping away from cinema, he would not only be abandoning a vital part of himself but also turning away from the life and world they shared, effectively leaving them behind as well. Kiran became very emotional, and although Aamir tried to comfort her by insisting that she was mistaken and that it wouldn’t happen, he later acknowledged that she was right, even if he didn’t realize it at the time.
Aamir Khan also discussed his children’s reaction to his decision. When he informed them three years ago that he was considering quitting films, they were taken aback. Aamir recounted their response, saying, “When I told them I am quitting films, their reaction was, ‘Papa, how will you quit films? You’ve been involved like crazy for the past 30 years. You must be emotional right now and saying this. But you will not be able to do it.'”
On the professional front, Aamir Khan was last seen in Advait Chandan’s Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, where he starred alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan. Despite the film’s underwhelming box office performance, Aamir has remained active in the industry.
