The incident occurred after the bus came under suspected terrorist gunfire. Tragically, 9 individuals lost their lives, while 33 others sustained injuries in the mishap.

On Sunday, tragedy struck as a bus transporting pilgrims to the Shiv Khori temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district careened into a deep ravine. The harrowing incident unfolded following an assault by terrorists on the 53-seater bus, causing it to veer off its course. Initial reports indicate that the attack occurred around 6:15 pm in Teryath village, Poni area, as the bus made its way to the Shiv Khori temple. News agency PTI has reported that the assault led to the bus plummeting into the gorge.
Superintendent of Police Reasi, Mohita Sharma, confirmed the grim toll, stating that at least nine individuals lost their lives, while 33 others sustained injuries in the accident. “A very unfortunate incident has occurred. Initial reports indicate that terrorists fired upon the bus, which was traveling from Shivpuri towards Katra. The driver lost control, resulting in the bus’s plunge into the gorge. The rescue operation has been completed. Nine fatalities are feared, and 33 injured individuals have been transported to Narayana Hospital and District Hospital,” she stated.
Authorities promptly initiated a rescue operation, swiftly deploying reinforcements from the police, army, and paramilitary forces to the site.
A video linked to the incident has surfaced, revealing the bus positioned several feet below the road, surrounded by a gathering crowd. As a result of the plunge, pilgrims onboard were thrown onto substantial rocks. Among the deceased are individuals of both genders.
PM Modi Takes Stock Of Situation, Round-The-Clock Helpline Set Up
In response to the Reasi terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed continuous monitoring of the situation, as informed by Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha.
Expressing strong condemnation for the cowardly act, Sinha extended condolences to the families of the martyred civilians. He emphasized the joint efforts of security forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police in launching a concerted operation to apprehend the perpetrators.
Sinha further conveyed that Prime Minister Modi assessed the situation and instructed him to maintain constant vigilance. The Prime Minister has assured that those responsible for this reprehensible act will face swift and decisive punishment. Additionally, Modi has instructed to provide the best possible medical care and assistance to all the injured individuals.
Additional director general of police (ADGP) Jammu informed that the District Administration has set up a round-the-clock helpline for info and assistance regarding the incident.
